In this short Life that only lasts an hour
How much - how little - is within our power
Joe Newman and his fiancee, Anita Sampson, are sheltering in place. For the second time in their lives they are facing a catastrophic pandemic. Newman seems takes this current moment stoically:
“It's another event, it's another problem...living is a problem. You do what you need to do to handle the problem that’s in front of you at this moment.”
Joe is 107 and his Anita just turned 100. The last pandemic they lived through was in 1918. In this podcast, they interview each other about their experience now, how it compares to a century ago, and what they hope for the future. Joe says of the life we have, “The years that we can look forward to, whatever they be … even if they are just days, to look forward to them and then hope for another one.”
